Toledo, Ohio - November 1, 2010 — Heidtman Steel Products, a North American supplier of steel products and services for a wide range of industries, has been awarded a $645,000 Green Industry Business Development Grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development (DCEO). The grant targets expansion and job creation to meet the needs of the renewable energy industry. It will allow Heidtman to create 11 manufacturing jobs at their Illinois facility and allow the company to purchase equipment that will enable them to expand coil and sheet steel capabilities to meet the demands of the wind energy industry.
“We are thankful to the State of Illinois for this generous grant, and are excited to have the opportunity to expand into the rapidly growing wind energy sector.” stated Tim Berra, president of Heidtman Steel Products. The new equipment will enhance Heidtman ‘s leveling capabilities including a stacker, run out table, measurement table, three new cranes and additional equipment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The grant was presented by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Director Warren Ribley. He stated “Heidtman Steel is a perfect example of a company that is looking to the future of wind power. Our investment in their project creates new opportunities for the businesses, workers, and homeowners in this region. The Illinois State Energy Plan is providing more than $100 million in grants statewide that will result in more than 12,000 green sector jobs in a two year period.
